What Project HOME does
Project HOME is a Philadelphia nonprofit that helps people leave homelessness and poverty for good. Sister Mary Scullion and Joan Dawson McConnon co-founded it in 1989. The name stands for its core services: housing, opportunities for employment, medical care and education. Its motto is 'None of us are home until all of us are home.'
Housing is the base of the work. Project HOME says it has developed 1,038 permanent supportive and affordable homes, with more under construction. It pairs housing with street outreach and a health center, the Stephen Klein Wellness Center, which offers primary, behavioral and dental care. It also offers job training, including through its own small social enterprises, and a learning center that runs K–12 programs and college-access support. Its homepage reports that people who found jobs through its services earn an average of $19.26 an hour.
It is a large, established organization, with about $51 million in revenue in fiscal 2025. Charity Navigator gives it a Four-Star rating with a 99% score. Donna Bullock became President and CEO in summer 2024, succeeding the two co-founders.
