What Project InnerSpace does
Project InnerSpace is a US nonprofit working to speed up the growth of geothermal energy, which uses heat from underground to make clean electricity and heat. Founder and executive director Jamie Beard launched it in 2022. Its central idea is that the oil and gas industry already has much of the resources, technology and know-how geothermal needs, so the group works to steer those resources toward geothermal projects.
The work runs on several tracks. GeoMap is a global map of geothermal resources meant to guide where projects get developed. A GeoFund finances early-stage projects so they can attract larger investment, and the group's About page says the fund will prioritize parts of the world facing energy poverty. It also publishes Future of Geothermal policy reports for US states and other countries. It convenes the GEODE consortium of more than 135 organizations and hosts Geothermal House events, which Giving Green says have reached over 4,000 people. Giving Green describes it as US-based, with work in the U.K., India, Indonesia, Africa and elsewhere.
The climate charity evaluator Giving Green named Project InnerSpace a 2025–2026 Top Climate Nonprofit, and Charity Navigator rates it Four-Star (91%). It has grown fast: IRS filings on ProPublica show annual expenses rising from about $0.7 million in 2022 to $11.3 million in 2024.
