What RAICES does
RAICES (the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services) started in 1986 as a two-person team in San Antonio. It now has about 140 advocates across five Texas locations: San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Houston. It provides legal aid, case management, and advocacy for immigrant and refugee families.
According to its 2025 annual report, RAICES served 7,970 people that year and carried an average of about 2,500 active immigration cases each month. It also served 1,487 refugee clients in San Antonio and has helped resettle about 2,400 people from more than two dozen countries since 2017. Its bond fund pays immigration bond fees so people can be released from ICE custody. Between June 2018 and December 2024, it paid more than $20 million in bonds for over 2,000 people, with an average bond of about $10,000. RAICES reports that less than 25% of those bonds had been refunded by the end of 2024.
Charity Navigator gives RAICES a Four-Star rating. Its 2025 report lists about $31.3 million in revenue, roughly $16.4 million of it from philanthropy and grants.
