What Hire Heroes USA does

Hire Heroes USA is a nonprofit based in Alpharetta, Georgia, that helps transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses land civilian jobs. It began in 2005 after businessman John Bardis met wounded Army Sergeant Justin Callahan at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and offered him a job. Every service it provides is free to job seekers.

Clients work one-on-one with a career coach on resumes, interview preparation and job-search strategy. They can also use the group's job board, career events and connections to training partners. The organization counts confirmed hires rather than just people served. It reported nearly 13,000 hires in 2025 and passed 100,000 in total by late 2024. It also says 75% of its clients are still employed a year after being hired.

Charity Navigator gives Hire Heroes USA four of four stars, and the organization's financials page cites a 100% score and a Candid Platinum Seal. The group says it relies almost entirely on public and private donations, and because veterans pay nothing, those gifts cover the coaching and job-search support.
